Spooky Stories

Students listened to CBC Radio's Spooky Stories as inspiration for a scary story of their own. (Click link to hear). Students were so concentrated on writing this story that I could easily have heard a pin drop in the classroom. Picture 25 students typing like mad-creatures as scary music is playing and the lights are off!

I gave them free reign over the subject matter, with the conditions that they had to make me cry because I was so frightened by their writing. **Criteria: Write 1-2 page of a scary story focused on description of the senses (what does the character hear, see, smell, touch etc.) They were provided with a "Juicy Word Booklet" with suggestions of synonyms that they would use to replace at least 10 boring words to 10 "juicy" words. They could also use the thesaurus.

**Students will workshop these, peer editing and submit a good copy.
